FEMA, the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources (NeDNR), Union College and NeFSMA are bringing Managing Floodplain Development Through the National Flood Insurance Program to Nebraska!

This is the field deployed version of the FEMA Emergency Management Institute (EMI) E273 course.  This course is designed to provide an organized training opportunity for local officials responsible for administering their local floodplain management ordinance.  The course will focus on the NFIP and concepts of a floodplain management, maps and studies, ordinance administration, and the relationship between floodplain management and flood insurance.

When: January 7-10, 2019, 8 am - 5 pm

Where: Ortner Center, Union College - Lincoln

Selection Criteria: Local officials responsible for administering local floodplain management ordinances, including but not limited to floodplain management administrators, building inspectors, code enforcement/zoning officers, conservation agents and commissioners, planners, city/county managers, attorneys, engineers, and public works officials.  Federal/State/regional floodplain managers also are encouraged to attend.  The course is designed for those officials with less than 3 years of floodplain management experience.  Seating is limited to 35 students, so be sure to register early!

Resources: Attendees may want to download and review FEMA publication 480 "Floodplain Management Requirements: A Study Guide and Desk Reference for Local Officials" prior to the course.

12 CECs for CFMs have been approved for this course.

In addition to the 4-day course, the CFM exam will be offered on Friday January 11, 2019.  The CFM exam is optional and separate registration and fee are required to sit for the CFM exam.  NOTE: The 273 course is not a CFM Exam prep course; exam takers should not expect to pass the exam without additional study of materials found of the CFM Exam Preparation page.
